This story starts out on April Fool's day. That alone, should have told me something was up...
I was working in the Salindae castle, as Elli's personal maid. Yes, that was my job before I found out I was one of the Chosen and also how Elli became one of my BFF's. But that's a totally different story!
Anyway it was right after I joined the Mystique when I met a girl named Halliea. She wasn't like normal girls, for one thing she was already dead. But she had to stay because she died before her time. "Eventually I'll be able to go to the afterlife," she said. "But for now I'm happy where I am!"
Soon I noticed her fading. When I asked her about it, she wouldn't answer. On April Fool's day she answered my question. "They said that if I don't find the Book before the next sunrise, I'll be stuck on here forever! Except it'll be worse than now 'cause I'll be totally invisible and I won't be able to talk to anyone!" She seemed close to tears, or at least the ghost version of them.
"What can I do to help?" I asked
"Well you know that tapestry with the cave studded with gems?"
"Yeah, what about it?"
"It's actually a portal to the place where the Book is held."
Wow, woven portals? I had to figure out how to make those."Ok, so how exactly do I get in?"
"It's easy. All you have to do is step through!"
"And you're sure I won't just slam into the wall and look like an idiot?"
"Yes I'm completely sure. Besides we're already here."
I looked up. Sure enough, the tapestry was right in front of us.
"I'd go myself, but ghosts can't go through. Watch." Halliea tried to step closer but an invisible forcefield knocked her off her feet. "Only living people can go through, you see."
I was seriously rethinking my decision to help. Something smelled fishy, and it wasn't the seafood being cooked for lunch. But I trusted Halliea, and besides she was my friend. I would never ever let a friend down if I could help it. So, I took a deep breath and stepped through. There was a blinding flash of light, a rush of wind and I was off! I could hear Halliea's voice in the distance.
"Thank you Lexi for helping me! And remember that nothing is ever as it seems in there..."
Well, it's not that weird yet. But it gets better. And there's still no word from any of our members about the jewel-thieves. Believe me though, when I say we're going to find them. And- oh I have to go! We're going to go sneak into the palace tonight, ninja-style. Over and out,
Lexi
